I feel this song is the best written by George Harrison. I loved this song when I first time heard the song in 1970. It summed up a lot back then. Especially after losing my father to Vietnam in late 1968. There was so much I wanted to tell my father.

I can't lie, the backing track is just awesome. Especially the guitar overdubs. True 60s studio musician style playing.

Recorded during the Ghost In The Machine sessions back in 1981 in Montserrat! During the recording of Ghost In The Machine Andy came up with the chords and Sting wrote the lyrics next to the swimming pool. Sting: "I love it. It's a set of chords Andy came up with and I wrote some lyrics to them by the swimming pool in Montserrat. It's very dark, but that was the Ghost period - pretty intense." Stewart: "Most people would lounge and bask in the sun by a swimming pool but Sting would create a cloud around himself and stare grimly at the horizon while he organised his dark thoughts into beautiful music."

Not a big Police fan, but I wanted to make a "fav hits" collection and surprised to hear this. It's shocking to hear today, based on my experience of that time, and I wonder how it was received. I don't recall hearing it on college radio. Fantastic and devastating. Although not without precedent, as we from the 1970s recall "Run Joey Run."
